Quick Answer

Gas cooker installation in the West Midlands costs £100 — this includes disconnecting and removing your old cooker and fitting the new one. The £100 covers the full swap-over in a single visit.

Additional costs apply if new gas pipework is needed or the gas point needs moving. See the full breakdown below.

Gas Cooker Installation Prices (West Midlands, 2026)

These are the fixed prices charged by NK Gas Service & Repairs. No hidden extras — what you're quoted is what you pay.

Job Fixed Price
Gas cooker installation — includes removing old cooker & fitting new one £100
Gas cooker disconnection only (cap off — no new cooker being fitted) £70
Range cooker installation £120
Gas hob installation £150

New gas pipework or moving an existing gas point is priced separately — we quote on the day once we can see what's needed. We'll always agree a price before starting any additional work.

What's Included in the £100 Installation Price?

The flat £100 covers everything involved in connecting a gas cooker to an existing, suitable gas supply point:

  • Connection to existing bayonet or rigid gas supply
  • Fitting the cooker into position
  • Gas leak test on all connections
  • Full functional test of all burners and oven
  • Safety check and sign-off by a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Disposal of any old gas hose if replacing

What isn't included: the cooker itself, an electrical connection (if needed), or any new gas pipework. If you're not sure whether your current gas point is suitable, give us a call before booking — we can tell you over the phone.

What Can Push the Cost of Getting a Gas Cooker Fitted?

Most installations are straightforward and come in at £100. There are a few things that can add to the cost:

No Existing Gas Point

If your kitchen has never had a gas cooker before, a new gas supply pipe will need to be run from the nearest gas connection. The cost varies depending on the distance and whether floors or walls need to be accessed. We'll survey and quote on the day.

Moving the Gas Point

If your new cooker is going in a different position and the gas point needs to be relocated, this requires additional pipework. Common when renovating a kitchen layout.

Old-Style Rigid Connections

Some older properties have rigid copper pipe connections instead of a modern bayonet fitting. Converting these adds a small amount to the job — usually £20–40 depending on what's needed.

Range Cookers and Dual-Fuel Models

Range cookers and larger freestanding models require a higher-capacity gas supply and may need a new, dedicated gas line. These are quoted at £120 rather than the standard £100.

Do You Need a Gas Safe Engineer to Install a Gas Cooker?

Yes — and this is not optional. Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, any person carrying out gas work must be on the Gas Safe Register. This includes connecting a gas cooker.

It is illegal for a homeowner or an unregistered person to connect a gas cooker themselves. If a gas leak, fire, or carbon monoxide incident occurs and the work was done by an unregistered person, insurance policies can be invalidated.

You can verify any Gas Safe engineer at gassaferegister.co.uk. NK Gas Service & Repairs is registered under ID #568305.

How Long Does Gas Cooker Installation Take?

A standard installation to an existing gas point takes 30 to 60 minutes. This includes positioning the cooker, connecting to the gas supply, carrying out a leak test, and testing all burners and the oven.

If your old cooker also needs disconnecting first, allow an extra 20 minutes. Where additional pipework is required, total time is typically 1–2 hours — we'll give you an accurate estimate when you book.

Gas Cooker vs Electric: Is Gas Still Worth It?

It depends on how you cook. Gas remains popular because burners respond instantly to temperature changes and give a more precise flame, which is particularly useful for hobs. Many professional cooks still prefer gas for this reason.

Running costs depend on your energy tariff. With current rates, gas and electric are broadly comparable for cooking — unlike heating, where gas still tends to be cheaper per kWh than electricity.

If you already have a gas supply in your kitchen, the installation cost is low (£100) and the ongoing running cost is reasonable. If you'd need new pipework run, it's worth comparing the total cost against an induction or electric alternative before committing.

What If You Just Need a Gas Cooker Disconnected?

If you're moving house, replacing a gas cooker with an electric model, or renovating a kitchen, you may just need the existing gas cooker safely disconnected and the gas point capped off.

This is a common request — particularly when selling a property or having a new kitchen fitted. Builders and kitchen fitters cannot legally do this work themselves, so they need a Gas Safe engineer to cap off the supply first.

NK Gas Service & Repairs carries out gas cooker disconnection for a fixed £70, same-day available.

Common Questions

No. It's illegal to connect a gas appliance yourself unless you are Gas Safe registered. Attempting to do so could invalidate your home insurance and create a serious safety risk. At £100 for a professional installation, it's not worth the risk.
A Gas Safe engineer will carry out a safety check and leak test as standard. For domestic cooker installations, a formal Gas Safety Record is not legally required (unlike a CP12 landlord certificate), but we document all work carried out for your records.
If you have a separate gas hob and oven, yes — we can connect both in a single visit. Combined pricing applies. Give us a call and we'll quote based on what's involved.
Look behind your cooker space for a capped-off bayonet fitting or a gas pipe. If you're not sure, we can visit and check — or in some cases advise over the phone based on your description of the property and kitchen layout.
Yes. We cover Wolverhampton, Walsall, Cannock, Dudley, West Bromwich, Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and surrounding areas. Same-day available across most of the region.
